The air inside the average home is up to five times more polluted than the air outside.
The tiny spores that mold uses to reproduce travel through the air and are invisible to the human eye. They pose a threat to anyone with asthma or other respiratory problems. Mold can grow virtually on any substance where moisture is present. If you find mold and remove it yourself it is critical that you also remove the source of moisture that the mold used to grow.
Mold consumes whatever surface it lives on as part of its survival process. This can weaken some structures and materials and this is another reason why it is important to inspect your home or office annually for possible mold growth. It’s important to dry out water damaged areas within 24-48 hours to prevent the growth of mold.
Oakwood’s mold remediation professionals will inspect and safely remove the mold for you to eliminate the risks associated with mold spore inhalation.
Sewage / Black Water
Black water (sewage) contains urine, feces and other organic matter that contain pathogens. Black Water spills pose a significant threat to all those exposed to it. The threat is immediate and can become worse long after the spill if the clean-up process is not done correctly.
Sewage contains extremely high amounts of bacteria and those bacteria are constantly breeding inside that water. If a sewage spill or even small leak has occurred at your home or office you must act now to prevent any further damage or contamination.
Once our Oakwood team arrives at your home or office we immediately start the vital containment process which includes the following steps:
- Removal of all sewage (water and organic matter).
- Thorough decontamination and disinfecting of all salvageable materials.
- Proper disposal and replacement of contaminated porous materials.
- Make arrangements with you to perform a full structural dry out to prevent any mold and other latent affects of the sewage spill.
A proper sewage remediation process also involves the bagging and disposal of all carpets and pads, the thorough cleaning and sanitizing of water cavities and sill plates. A full drying out of the entire building is also a crucial component of the mitigation process and must be done prior to the installation of new materials. During the cleanup process we use negative air machines containing Hepa filters to keep bacteria counts in the air as low as possible.
Oakwood takes personal and full responsibility for the health and safety of its employees. We use state of the art sanitizing equipment and provide proper training of all it’s Black Water staff to ensure that no unnecessary exposure take place at any point during the clean up of your spill.

Oakwood construction can mitigate your asbestos problems. To determine if your home or office is at risk of containing harmful asbestos please read the following information on asbestos.
Before 1980 asbestos fibers were used in a variety of manufactured goods including:
Popcorn ceilings, drywall, roofing shingles, linoleum, vinyl sheeting, duct work, stucco, texturecoat, acoustic ceilings, plaster, lath and plaster, buttonboard, fireproofing materials, mastic, pipe coverings, mag piping, mag block, and more.
As you are aware, prolonged exposure to asbestos fibers can cause respiratory problems and even lung diseases such as mesothelioma and lung cancer. The risk for developing health issues as result from asbestos exposure is greatly increased if you smoke.
In California, homeowners are not required to remove materials that contain asbestos. However, if they sell their home state law does mandate full disclosure of the presence of asbestos during the escrow process.
Please note: Commercial property owners are responsible for securing asbestos abatement services where exposed asbestos poses a threat. If you feel that your building was constructed before or during 1980 (and even shortly after 1980) you may have harmful asbestos on your property.
